Media reports on Monument Valley

App review: “Feel On!”

This is my favourite Twitter Client recently…”Feel On!”. It’s a Japanese app but they say English version is coming soon. This client analyses tweets in timeline and attach illustration. Really well done actually.

Of course it can’t be that accurate and attaches some strange ones which makes tweets so funny, or attaches some perfect ones which makes tweets even more better!

I don’t use it as a main client as it doesn’t display that many tweets and it doesn’t show Facebook updates, but I like opening this app…Good emotional design I think.

I made an album on FB so check it out too.

Lupin the Third and Social Media

A Japanese animation called “Lupin the third” is doing a massive scale promotion in Japan. (Lupin the thrid, the main character is a heroic phantom theft, like the original “Lupin”) And they are using social media a lot!

At the beginning, a official account of “Lupin” was created on mixi, and they let users to become “friends”. And they collected opinions of what the users want him to steal. I thought maybe they would use these opinions for the idea to make another animation, but actually a famous statue in Shibuya in Tokyo has gone. Seems the actual police force was cooperating with this project too.

What happened was uploaded to their account on youtube and flickr, and in the physical world, lots of announcement appeared. Even after that, they stole “the cover of the famous magazine”, and “the famous character of the restaurant” etc… and it’s still going on!

As for online, if you put a blog part on your blog, “he” will come to steal it, and the stolen blogs are shown on the official website. And they are going to have a party to share the “treasure” with users both online and offline…

They update the situation on Twitter. Users are also updating what’s happening with their mobiles. The original content was just a character of an animation, but they are using lots of both online/offline media, and now it’s becoming a big inter-media-campaign. This is great.

Check it out if you are interested in.

Using social media

So everyone says “Twitter, “Twitter”, “Twitter” recently for social media stories, but how do you use them? These are what I use:

  1. Mixi (SNS/J): Japanese friends
  2. Facebook (SNS/E): Other friends + some Japanese friends
  3. LinkedIn (SNS/E): Career networking
  4. Seminar SNS (SNS/J): Members of the seminar at Uni
  5. UK Alumni Network (SNS/J): Importing blog only
  6. Twitter (Micro-blog/E&J): Small story and real-time story
  7. Blog (Blog/E&J,separated): Bigger story and self-log
  8. Booklog(Book blog/J): Not often
  9. Delicious (Bookmark/E&J): Partially sharing
  10. Last.fm (Music SNS/E&J): Auto-feeding from iTunes

I wish I could send Twitter feeds to all SNS at the same time, but Tweetdeck that I use now is only compatible with English, which means is not compatible with mixi at all. Even tweets from my Japanese friends can’t be displayed properly, ummm. Also LinkedIn can import Twitter feed but some of my tweets are too trivial and not related to career at all… I wish I had a client application that I can control where/what to tweet. Should I write it by myself?

By the way, still I’m not sure how I should use LinkedIn…Usually for business network, trust is important so information needs to be accurate. But online communication is usually not trustworthy, and considering security I always hesitate to upload my personal information. But it’s entitled as career networking so it might be easier to talk to someone who is not that close each other…? Anyway, I’m still thinking.

Regarding Booklog, Delicious, Last.fm, I have put lots of data as use of SAAS so I should use them more by forwarding the information to any other sites.

Anyway, it seems English social media is full of personal information without considering security… I assume lots of people are making money out of them.

  1. Mixi (SNS/
  2. Facebook (SNS/
  3. LinkedIn (SNS/
  5. UK Alumni Network (SNS/
  6. Twitter(マイクロブログ/英&日):小ネタとリアルタイムネタ

FireFox Plug-in, “Feedly”

I’m trying to find a part-time job at the moment, and want to save some money so tend to stay at home… Umm, it’s not good, I should be more active! Maybe I should try planting at least one seed/day.

By the way, I started to use a Firefox plug-in called “feedly“. I really like it! It re-format the feeds from your google reader to “magazine site” look…so

This

google_p

becomes this

feedly_p

Actually the change it makes is not that complicated, it’s just about things like font, margin, size, it’s so simple! But these small changes make articles much more readable. I think feedly itself has some problems of usability, but still it’s much better than Google Reader! It makes you realise the importance of layout.

Desgree Show, finishing the course, etc.

The course finished last week. One year was so quick! For the last project, we made an iPhone application called “Alight”.

imgp2663_1_p

Alight is an application to allow users to associate their small ideas in daily life with particular location, so that they will have more chanced to develop them further. I was in charge of interface design. I know iPhone is not small as mobile phone, but still designing menu for small screen was good learning for me. We used 50inch plasma TV for the degree show, so I had to edit some footages (which I hadn’t done for a few years!). My poor macbook (not pro) was crying all the time rendering HD.

Finishing the course, I really feel that I met such wonderful classmates! It was so fun to do project with people who are enthusiastic about interactive media, and we enjoyed the time together even outside the studio! Some of them have already gone back to their own countries, but I believe I can see them in the future again.

By the way, >To friends in London, I have to move our from the current flat soon, and looking for a new place! Please let me know if you have any ideas. >To friends in Japan, I’m going back to Japan in October! Let’s go for a drink if you have time. Let me know when you are free, but as I am a poor student, (i.e. no money to drink a lot) let’s drink together if you guys know each other lol

Trends?

This blog has started to get more access since I wrote about Kabuki last time. Most of the searching keywords are “Kamejiro”…wow, he is so popular. Usually access is from searching engine or mixi (Japanese social network site) but today I found unfamiliar URL named “kizasi.jp“, so I jumped to that site. It seems they are collecting keywords from a lot of blogs, and makes rankings of what people are interested in. I didn’t know such a website exists. What is “Panic face”…? (Seems it’s the popular keyword right now in Japan) Well, I found this article on the other day too. 「15 Fascinating Ways to Track Twitter Trends」 Yeah, Twitter is full of irrelevant information, so now there are more service which select and put them into tidy order. Looks interesting.

Twitter

Recently I always find a word “twitter” everywhere. I remember I read an article about it when it was launched, but as I couldn’t understand what is was, so I haven’t used it before. …Well, I still don’t know what’s good about this. Most of articles just say “it’s loose communication.”, and even reading “how everyone uses it”, I can’t get it. …so I decided to try it anyway. I added a widget to show it on my blog, I added a tool on my igoogle, now I’m ready! I’m going to use it for a while, but let me know what’s good about this if you really love this tool. Twitter

Google may harm your computer.

“A Chinese company launched Red-ray disc to compete with Blu-ray disc”… hearing such an interesting news by my friend, I was googling the keyword. But suddenly, google started to show “This site may harm your computer” message on every single search result. “What!? Did I get any virus or something!?!?!?” I felt a bit anxious, but found out that it was a problem of google side. It has recovered already, but I captured a screen because it was so funny.
